Robotic Arm

We've built a robotic arm that can pick up chess pieces and place them on the chessboard. This arm has three degrees of freedom : two for horizontal motion and one for vertical motion. We have used three servos for this purpose and have controlled them using Arduino Uno.

Building the Arm

The arm is built using two aluminium channels, which act as base and elbow of the robot. Their motion is controlled by using two servo motors with gears and ball bearings.

Gripper

The gripper contains an electromagnet which is used to pick up chess pieces (a metal piece is attached to their heads). The motion of gripper is controlled by a servo and a gear rack kit, which acts as the wrist of the robot.

Controlling it with Arduino

Using Arduino Uno, we are controlling the three servos and the electromagnet. Along with that, Arduino is also controlling an LCD display.
